In Rail Rush, it is possible to pause the game.
Access[]
During a game, the player can pause the game by clicking/tapping the "pause" button on the upper-left corner of the screen. Pausing is infamously difficult to do in the Classic and Worlds version, especially when a key press is faster to do than a point-and-click gesture (which is perhaps a consequence of the developers' efforts to port a mobile game to a web browser). Pressing the Back button on Android or Windows Phone devices also pauses the game.
The Pause Menu Screen[]
At the pause menu, the player will be able to review their current missions and progress of missions that need not be completed in one run. However, he/she cannot see his/her rank or progress towards the next rank.
There are four other buttons below the current missions display.
- Resume: This button takes the player back into the game. When this happens, the game resumes after a three second delay, giving some time for the player to remember what was happening right at the moment the game was paused. In the mobile version, this button is a left arrow on the lower-left corner of the screen, and pressing the Back button on Android or Windows Phone devices achieves the same effect.
- Restart: This button restarts the current run. The player must confirm whether the run should really be restarted. In the Classic and Worlds version, this button is represented with a curved arrow to the left of the Resume button. It is not possible to restart a run while trying a premium world or premium character in the mobile version.
- Menu: This button aborts the run and returns the player to the main menu. The player must confirm whether the run should end, although it would be more preferable to let the run end by committing suicide in-game, which is easy to do. In the Classic and Worlds version, this button is represented with a rectangle with a right arrow coming out of it, and is positioned right of the Resume button.
- Shop: This button ends the current run and takes the player to the shop. The player will be warned that the current run must end if he/she wants to go to the shop.
Cheat[]
The mission "Begin the game X times" can be easily beaten by pausing and restarting repeatedly, but in order for credit to be applied for that mission, the player must then finish one run.
